Jesuit Priest. NYT Best Selling Author. One of America’s Acclaimed Spiritual Leaders.

Fr. James Martin got his Bachelor’s degree in Business from the Wharton School at UPenn., then worked at General Electric before joining the Jesuits, earning graduate degrees in theology and philosophy, and being ordained a priest in 1999. He serves as the editor-at-large for the Jesuit magazine, America. He is also a frequent commentator on the life and teachings of Jesus, and on Ignatian spirituality (as inspired by the life and teachings of Saint Ignatius of Loyola). In 2017, Pope Francis appointed Fr. Martin as a consultant to the Vatican's Secretariat for Communications.

Fr. Martin is also a prolific author and has published several books including the New York Times Best Seller, The Jesuit Guide to (Almost) Everything, Building a Bridge: How the Catholic Church and the LGBT Community Can Enter into a Relationship of Respect, Compassion, and Sensitivity, and more recently, Learning to Pray: A Guide for Everyone. He has appeared in both national and international media including CNN, NPR, Time, The Colbert Report, NPR's Fresh Air, the New York Times and The Wall Street Journal.
