Healing Our Divisions: A Journey of Transformation

With Matthew Stevenson

Investment Analyst. Featured by Goldman Sachs. Columbia Business School Graduate.

Matthew Stevenson, an Orthodox Jew, was able to transform the white supremacist views of Derek Black, the heir apparent to the white nationalist movement and godson of David Duke, the former grand wizard of the KKK, through love, respect and understanding. His remarkable act of social transformation has inspired many—to bridge divides, bring families and communities together, and transform people from the inside-out, all without engaging in a single act of hatred or a single word of disrespect.

  • So grateful for your heart, clarity and love - learned so much from you today, Matthew. Avina Gupta

  • Great summary Prof. Wadhwa. Thank you very much for such an insightful session today. Deepak Gujjar

Mathew graduated from the New College of Florida, the state's honors college, with degrees in mathematics and economics. He holds an MBA from Columbia Business School and currently works as an investment analyst at T. Rowe Price. He was also featured by Goldman Sachs as the subject of Pulitzer prize-winning reporter Eli Saslow’s award-winning book Rising Out of Hatred: The Awakening of a Former White Nationalist

Mathew Stevenson joins us on this episode of Intersections to discuss how we can - in our families, organizations and communities - create the conditions for truth, justice and humanity to prevail over distortions, biases and disharmony?

“No one is born hating another person because of the color of his skin, or his background, or his religion. People must learn to hate, and if they can learn to hate, they can be taught to love, for love comes more naturally to the human heart than its opposite.”
Nelson Mandela
